Kampala at 7

As the sun sets, dusk draws nearer. People from all walks of life, Moving left and right In panic, fidget to cross the road at no zebra crossing Rush hour it is! Women, Children still in their school uniforms vending merchandise. Idlers wander around, hustlers rub shoulders trying to get somewhere Car horns beep, Taxi drivers hooting Prolonged, impatiently Police sirens rumble, as convoys pass by in awe Boda bodas waiting at the corner of a common road, Causing chaos, Calling for clients in pairs., Kabalagala Kansanga Bunga Soya Charging half the price. The extreme end person Enduring butt bumps on humps. Traffic lights go red, and green a decade later The commotion at these junctions, Utmost collision of bikes and vehicles Is not for the faint hearted Be that as it may The upper Kampala driveway Exquisite, cool weather Street lights giving a bright ray through the car glass Quiet serene environment Via t...

To whom it may concern

Ps. Totally Unbiased issues Uganda has the world’s youngest population with over 78% of its population below the age of 30. The biggest population that is rooting against the current government in support of opposition parties like People Power are the youth under 35 – 40 years of age; not because they have been entirely affected by his reign but mostly due to the need to feed our curious egos, we would like to know what it is like to have a different person in power. The rest of the country’s population, from 45 – 50 onward totally have no problem with his rule for HE Museveni has been in power for over 35 years, and they testify of how life got better when he came in power. Let me tell you a short story. A young village couple that had been engaged for almost 5 years, relocated to a city suburb after the husband had been given a promotion to teach at a recently opened school branch. Being the hard worker that he is, he was among the lucky ones to relocate to Kampala. ...

The price of being a man.

In my last article that I published here, a male friend commented privately that the piece left him feeling left out for it was more about empowering women hence living them out. So I was left wondering whether men do need empowerment. Later that afternoon, I met a friend  whom I asked randomly “John, do you think you as a man, you would need empowerment?” he laughed and said “I am a hard guy, men do not need such, it’s for you ladies.”, while flexing his bicep muscle to show me how strong he is. That right there is all the reasons why men need empowerment, for empowerment is not about physical strength or anything. Empowerment is meant to make someone stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights and things they believe in. The bible says God created man first, and all the other different scholars in the world of Science put man first as the significant being, the superiority of being a male being does bring a great platform that g...

Letters to the girl child.

Dear girl child, I pray that this finds you strong and happy while you grow up, I hope you are lucky enough to have grown up in a modernised society that does support girl child education. Better yet, you are to be ushered into new hilarious changes, which will probably get you aware or unaware, and most of those will identify you as who you truly are while you grow with them, others will break you or mend you but I hope you never feel less of yourself and I hope no one ever makes you feel that way. Your breasts will grow, your buttocks too and soon enough you will bleed every month, I hope by now you have experienced all that and you have grown into a young fine lady that your father and mother are so proud to have had, each time they see you, they wish they made more like you. When it’s time for you go out there, keep in mind that the world out here is so lucky to have had someone just like you, to get to have your brilliant brains and hands on the works of the world. Carry your he...

Self-discovery as a writer.

I am a writer, well I just blushed at the utterance of that because I’m not sure if I qualify as a writer. Considering that writers do write a lot more, have experience which comes with time and put in hard work. I have always been writing short articles in high school and have always wanted to be a better writer. I have read other peoples pieces and they left me astonished and inspired wondering whether I’ll ever be able to come up with such amazing pieces. I usually come up with brilliant and interesting topics in my mind, with ideas to note down and fill a page or two, but as soon as I write the first and the second line, the determination and motivation phases out. The emptiness of the white screen board on a Microsoft word page freaks me out and I wonder how or what I’m going to fill it with, then I close my computer. Oh yeah so now you know what kind of writer I am, I have a whole bunch of people who believe in me and think I can write, I also have a laptop too, I mean I have ...
