Letters to the girl child.

Dear girl child, I pray that this finds you strong and happy while you grow up, I hope you are lucky enough to have grown up in a modernised society that does support girl child education. Better yet, you are to be ushered into new hilarious changes, which will probably get you aware or unaware, and most of those will identify you as who you truly are while you grow with them, others will break you or mend you but I hope you never feel less of yourself and I hope no one ever makes you feel that way. Your breasts will grow, your buttocks too and soon enough you will bleed every month, I hope by now you have experienced all that and you have grown into a young fine lady that your father and mother are so proud to have had, each time they see you, they wish they made more like you.

When it’s time for you go out there, keep in mind that the world out here is so lucky to have had someone just like you, to get to have your brilliant brains and hands on the works of the world. Carry your head high and be hungry to accomplish the worlds treasures, be humble, disciplined and kind, believe in God too for He’s going to get you through a lot easier than anyone else.
I pray and hope that while you are about to head out of your parents’ house to marriage (at a time of your choice, hoping that no one is marrying you off forcefully) or any other vocation that you choose, may you find yourself first. Be mentally, emotionally, physically, financially independent. Ruth Bader Ginsburg a feminist once said “My mother told me to be a lady, and for her, that meant be your own person, be INDEPENDENT.”

May you not seek fulfilment or approval from the world outside in order to feel accepted in society. There will surely be rough days, days that will make you want to give up your entire personality that you have built, but dear noble lady, hang in there a little. You are not the first there, and your situation is not the worst that could happen. How you react is what’s going to make you different from all the people. Stand out. May you not require someone else to make you feel comfortable in your own skin. Be confident enough and believe in your natural beauty, not to deprive it of its originality.

“The emerging woman will be strong minded, strong hearted, strong-souled and strong bodied…, strength and beauty must go together. “ A saying by Louisa May Alcott. I pray that the battles that you fight emotionally and physically make you stronger, may you speak up and fight for equal opportunities with men for collaboration rather than superiority. May your name reign and shine like an armour, may your story be different, and all that you bring forth pick a leaf, to build a nation, a generation of strong, made of steel, lovely independent women.
With love
Champ

Live everyday like it’s your birthday.

PS. This is based on a personal experience As days to my twenty fine birthday drew nearer, I was on a roller coaster of emotions., filled with anxiety, excitement and fear the whole time. This one was a special one, I was eagerly anticipating it because I guess it’s the 1 st birthday that I’m celebrating when I’m actually in charge. By in charge I mean, I could actually afford treating myself out, a fancy cake or whatsoever I wanted to do with my life that day. The anticipation grew intense each day until D day. My birthday was okay, I had wanted it to be a lot more than merely okay, I had wanted a mind-blowing fulfilling experience (not so lavish or fancy) from those that love and care about me. I had high expectations, I wanted lots of attention, it’s like some tiny little bit of me wanted to be put on a pedestal and worshipped because it was “my” birthday. What a joke! So that long awaited morning, it rained unexpectedly, power went off too. Haha! I had a huge bea...

The price of being a man.

In my last article that I published here, a male friend commented privately that the piece left him feeling left out for it was more about empowering women hence living them out. So I was left wondering whether men do need empowerment. Later that afternoon, I met a friend  whom I asked randomly “John, do you think you as a man, you would need empowerment?” he laughed and said “I am a hard guy, men do not need such, it’s for you ladies.”, while flexing his bicep muscle to show me how strong he is. That right there is all the reasons why men need empowerment, for empowerment is not about physical strength or anything. Empowerment is meant to make someone stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights and things they believe in. The bible says God created man first, and all the other different scholars in the world of Science put man first as the significant being, the superiority of being a male being does bring a great platform that g...

Kampala at 7

As the sun sets, dusk draws nearer. People from all walks of life, Moving left and right In panic, fidget to cross the road at no zebra crossing Rush hour it is! Women, Children still in their school uniforms vending merchandise. Idlers wander around, hustlers rub shoulders trying to get somewhere Car horns beep, Taxi drivers hooting Prolonged, impatiently Police sirens rumble, as convoys pass by in awe Boda bodas waiting at the corner of a common road, Causing chaos, Calling for clients in pairs., Kabalagala Kansanga Bunga Soya Charging half the price. The extreme end person Enduring butt bumps on humps. Traffic lights go red, and green a decade later The commotion at these junctions, Utmost collision of bikes and vehicles Is not for the faint hearted Be that as it may The upper Kampala driveway Exquisite, cool weather Street lights giving a bright ray through the car glass Quiet serene environment Via t...
