Self-discovery as a writer.

I am a writer, well I just blushed at the utterance of that because I’m not sure if I qualify as a writer. Considering that writers do write a lot more, have experience which comes with time and put in hard work. I have always been writing short articles in high school and have always wanted to be a better writer. I have read other peoples pieces and they left me astonished and inspired wondering whether I’ll ever be able to come up with such amazing pieces.
I usually come up with brilliant and interesting topics in my mind, with ideas to note down and fill a page or two, but as soon as I write the first and the second line, the determination and motivation phases out. The emptiness of the white screen board on a Microsoft word page freaks me out and I wonder how or what I’m going to fill it with, then I close my computer.
Oh yeah so now you know what kind of writer I am, I have a whole bunch of people who believe in me and think I can write, I also have a laptop too, I mean I have all that id need to become a well-established writer but I’m also filled with lots of lack of self-motivation and drive. In a 2019 economy, I’ve also found myself stuck up the huge urge for money to fit in my bills. Then in the long run, I’ve lost focus, writing hasn’t seemed like it’s going to pay off for me yet or soon enough.
However here I am, I haven’t given up yet on my dream to become a writer, willing to learn and do better each new day. Hopefully I’m not the only one who has experienced this, so if at all you’re reading this and have a hard time figuring out who you want to be and keeping up with what you want to be, here’s a few tips for you to keep in mind. I’ve summarized them and I’ll just outline them, a few or almost of them are applicable for all careers in self-discovery.

  • Allow yourself to write badly, the two sides of a coin, if it turns you’re going to be the great writer you always wanted to be.
  • Start with a sentence, paragraph of that brilliant idea that you have burning up in your mind.
  • Commit to a title that you will keep in mind, for it will guide all through your piece.
  • Stay loose and write it all, share what you know and what you’re thinking, then edit later.
  • Read as much as u write, articles from other successful writers will give you an exposure of different tactics on unique writing.
  • Research, this is very important and should have come first but anyway save the best for the last. Giving your story a factual bone is crucial for the reader will discover something new within your article.

I hope those above tips help you and I pray u keep them in mind and also apply them to your daily journey of self-discovery.
Good luck.

Live everyday like it’s your birthday.

PS. This is based on a personal experience As days to my twenty fine birthday drew nearer, I was on a roller coaster of emotions., filled with anxiety, excitement and fear the whole time. This one was a special one, I was eagerly anticipating it because I guess it’s the 1 st birthday that I’m celebrating when I’m actually in charge. By in charge I mean, I could actually afford treating myself out, a fancy cake or whatsoever I wanted to do with my life that day. The anticipation grew intense each day until D day. My birthday was okay, I had wanted it to be a lot more than merely okay, I had wanted a mind-blowing fulfilling experience (not so lavish or fancy) from those that love and care about me. I had high expectations, I wanted lots of attention, it’s like some tiny little bit of me wanted to be put on a pedestal and worshipped because it was “my” birthday. What a joke! So that long awaited morning, it rained unexpectedly, power went off too. Haha! I had a huge bea...

The price of being a man.

In my last article that I published here, a male friend commented privately that the piece left him feeling left out for it was more about empowering women hence living them out. So I was left wondering whether men do need empowerment. Later that afternoon, I met a friend  whom I asked randomly “John, do you think you as a man, you would need empowerment?” he laughed and said “I am a hard guy, men do not need such, it’s for you ladies.”, while flexing his bicep muscle to show me how strong he is. That right there is all the reasons why men need empowerment, for empowerment is not about physical strength or anything. Empowerment is meant to make someone stronger and more confident, especially in controlling their life and claiming their rights and things they believe in. The bible says God created man first, and all the other different scholars in the world of Science put man first as the significant being, the superiority of being a male being does bring a great platform that g...
